Sash Windows - replacement sash windows

Sash windows are probably the most attractive and efficient style of window ever made. As the focal point of many period properties, they play an important part in England’s historic architecture. When you are looking to replace the windows in a property that is nearly one hundred years old, or even more, it is imperative to maintain the charm and character of the original sashes, without the draughts and vulnerability that timber sash windows are known for.

Our Bygone range of UPVC sash windows maintain all the beauty and practicality of original timber windows, with the advantages of warmth and security that modern glazing technology brings. Here is a summary of what you get when you choose Bygone sliding sash windows...

Authentic external Georgian Bars can add a genuine touch of class Also available with realistic White Wood finish Try our new Tudor Style Windows
  • White Wood Grain - This unique finish gives your new windows an authentic painted timber effect finish, which gives you an extremely long lasting, maintenance free, high quality window finish.
  • Authentic Sightlines - Most PVC sash replacements destroy the look and value of homes because they do not have a clean vertical line through the upper and lower sashes, which unbalances your window - especially where Georgian or Victorian patterns are being used. Bygone windows have a unique design, which means that the actual Georgian “squares” are of equal dimension, giving your new windows a perfect authentic look.

  • Authentic Georgian Bars - Most “cheap” replacement sash windows have Georgian “canes” placed in between two sheets of glass. This means that it is obvious at a glance that your home has cheap double-glazing sash replacements - as they do not have the depth, character and shadow lines which make sash windows with Georgian bars look so good. Bygone windows have triple fastened (for strength) internal and external Georgian bars, which give a high quality authentic look.

  • Deep Bottom Rail - Another unique feature of authentic sash windows is that the bottom rail was between 4 and 5 inches deep. Most modern replacements do not replicate this look, as it is more complex and expensive to manufacture. Bygone sash windows have a deep bottom rail which faithfully replicates the look of original sash windows.

  • Continuous Sash Horns - Sash horns are a unique feature of sash windows and are essential for capturing the authentic look of genuine sash windows. Bygone windows have a “continuous” horn – the horn on most modern sash windows is “attached”, an easy give away that they are modern replacements.

And, of course, they are the only sash windows available in Britain with a C energy rating.
